NHL 2 has up to 8% of silica and trace elements. |
NHL 3.5 has up to 18% of silica and trace elements. |
NHL 5 has up to 25% of silica and trace elements. |
It is the silica and trace elements that when burnt, become reactive with water and will cause an initial hydraulic set of the mortar when mixed with water.
It is the initial hydraulic set that makes the Hydraulic Lime mortars easier to use for the contact work and for conservation work where time scales and ease of use are important. The work still needs protection from wind, rain, frost and drying, but for much shorter periods of time than with lime putty mortars.
We sell the Round Tower range of Hydraulic Lime which is quarried from the Socli quarries in France. Round Tower / Socli Lime has been used for more than four generations of quarry owners and has been used on some of the most prestigious and historical buildings in Europe.
Our own experience with the range of Round Tower Lime is that when properly applied it hardens quickly without cracking or shrinking.
Natural Hydraulic Lime must have no additions such as Pozzolans or cements to conform with the EU Norms ( EN/BS 459, 1-2-3 )
Alternatively we provide ' ready-to-use ' plasters, mortars, Hot Lime mixes and paints.
