introduction to lime
The Building Lime Company runs regular courses on lime and lime mortars.
These practical courses are for home owners, Builders, Architects, Engineers.
*Please note that due to the level
of demand for courses we are only able to run them for existing
customers, the course will cost £65 for an afternoon.*
The Building Lime Company staff are happy to share they’re
many years of practical and theoretical knowledge of lime
and traditional building techniques during the course of a
half day presentation practical demonstration and hands on
instruction.
The course will cover
:
- A brief History of lime use.
- The types of limes and how they are produced.
- The advantages of lime.
- The specification of lime mortars and plasters.
- The use of inclusions in Lime mortars.
- Plastering on timber Lathe.
- Lime wash.
- Basic lime mortar analysis.

The practical session will cover the application
of harling coats and lime render / plaster onto chalk
cob, brick, block, and
plaster lathe. The methods of construction of Chalk Cob walls
and an Pointing of flint, stone and brickwork walls.
A discussion on damp proofing and structural crack repairs of historic buildings built of lime mortar.
- All tools materials and protective clothing are provided all that you are required to bring is enthusiasm and suitable water proof working boots.
