The building lime company has been converting
a derelict farm yard and barns into new offices, workshops
warehouse
and seminar rooms at Porton. Naturally all of the work has been
carried out with Natural Lime mortars.
The aim has been to restore
the buildings to provide modern facilities while retaining all
of the original features. The footings were built with
Roundtower NHL5 Natural Hydraulic Lime. The Walls above DPC
were built with Roundtower NHL 3.5 All of the work was carried
out in December through to January. The hydraulic lime mortars
had to be covered to protect from rain and frost but work was
carried out just as quickly as it would have been with modern
sand cement mortars. Inside the barn.

The Building Lime Company
and
LSE Building Preservation
both occupy the offices on the
first floor of the barn. There is a purpose built seminar room
and workshop below. The Building Lime Company run seminars
and practical work shops for Architects, Surveyors, Engineers
and contractors including theory and practical.
